If you’re interested in learning programming for the very first time, or test how you like it before you commit to a bootcamp or paid course, this list of free Coding classes has something for all. Some are basic, while others will provide you with more in-depth knowledge. All of them are free to get started but require a time commitment.

W3schools offers free tutorials for beginners that teach HTML and CSS. If you’re able to spare more time, check out Udemy’s Tech101-style course that covers all the basics to get you started.

More advanced coders will have plenty of options to select from on Scaler’s Coding course page, where you can find a variety of online courses catering to a wide range of skills. From data structures to programming languages they cover all the fundamentals of what it is to think like an engineer working in software.

Take a look at the possibility of learning Smalltalk. It’s an emulation of the computer language Python, and is incredibly simple to master. In just a few weeks, you’ll master control structures such as loops and if statements while getting familiar with the language. There’s also a more thorough intro course that guides you through the concepts of the object-oriented programming language.
