Room data sheets are organized descriptions of the specifications that apply to specific room types. They are typically created during the briefing (or architectural programming in the US) phase of a design project and help to clarify the client’s requirements for each space type. They can then be used to create specifications that help contractors and design teams understand what is expected from each space and how to ensure that any proposed solution will meet the client’s requirements.

Architects as well as other members of design teams, such as interior designers and engineers, make room data sheets. They are still a work-in-progress and could remain an „living document” until the client approves the final architectural design. The data in room data sheets can then be linked to the Revit model by a process known as backfilling. This method of verification can help to ensure that the data for the room accurately matches the requirements in final documents and be used to identify any gaps.

The Room Data Sheets component in BriefBuilder allows you to quickly create room data sheets and then use them to integrate with the Revit model. It includes a standard template set and pre-programmed select lists for the structural and electrical disciplines and plumbing and HVAC. It also allows the addition of thumbnail-sized illustrations and graphics for each discipline.

The component is simple to use and requires no particular setup. It is able to load configurations previously saved, which find more reduces the time spent setting up. It also allows properties such as scale, browser organization, and names to be defined for each view created.
